Arthur is a Pharaoh Hound, an ancient breed of sight hound tracing its ancestry to the earliest dynasties of Egypt. Some believe this the first dog ever bred by humans for domestic service.  Its unique characteristic of permanently erect ears identifies it with tomb-reliefs of Anubis. In its size, gentle disposition, and eagerness to chase rabbits, it resembles the more familiar greyhound.
